Gachagua Explains Decision to Remove State House Traps Set for Raila

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua revealed on Sunday that he had set and later removed traps at State House to prevent ODM leader Raila Odinga from gaining access to the Head of State. Gachagua shared this during an interview with Kikuyu stations from his Karen home. Initially, he and President Ruto had agreed to set these traps to block Raila from joining the government unofficially. Gachagua regularly checked these traps, which were so effective that the first meeting between Ruto and Raila occurred in Uganda.

However, Gachagua noticed a growing rapport between Ruto and Raila and decided to step back, abandoning the traps. He chose instead to focus on combating illicit liquor. His shift in perspective came after Raila supported the “one-man, one-shilling, one-vote” campaign, which Gachagua had advocated. This support led Gachagua to question his previous stance on Raila, recalling how former President Uhuru Kenyatta and now Ruto had criticized and then collaborated with Raila. Recognizing Raila’s potential support for his revenue-sharing campaign, Gachagua removed the traps entirely, allowing Raila unfettered access to State House, aligning their efforts for a broad-based administration.
